DBM - Danse Bassin Méditeranée   [www.d-b-m.org]
DBM is an independent membership organisation that aims to dinamize the development of contemporary dance and the performing arts in the Mediterranean, by facilitating networking and stimulating communication between artists and arts professionals from the region, Europe and the rest of the world and by supporting member-based activities, productions and events that enhance artistic exchange and collaboration.

WHAT WE STAND FOR
Culture is at the heart of contemporary debates about identity, social cohesion, and the development of a knowledge-based economy. Respect for the diversity of cultures, tolerance, dialogue and cooperation, in a climate of mutual trust and understanding, are among the best guarantees of international peace and security. [We] aspire to greater solidarity on the basis of recognition of cultural diversity, of awareness of the unity of humankind, and of the development of intercultural exchanges.
Universal Declaration of Cultural Diversity, UNESCO, Paris 2001

The Mediterranean is a region where different civilizations and cultures meet. It is a place with a long and extremely rich history, full of cultural exchanges, reciprocal influences, but also oppositions; a somewhat puzzling conjunction of region and border area that is going through an intense process of change. DBM believes that cultural exchange is a crucial instrument to help the Mediterranean neighbours understand and respect each other. It holds that the creative work of our artists and its fruition by our publics stimulate the dialogue between peoples, because it lets our art and our cultural realisations speak for ourselves and create dialogues with the Other. In the view of DBM, the Euro-Mediterranean dimension is a central axe in the construction of solidarity and understanding and, at the same time, part of a vast network of connections on a global scale.
